warning.. or not warning? warning laaah…

another not-too-clever statement from someone-who-luckily-appointed-as-a-minister in indonesia:

(taken from here)

Science and Technology Minister Kusmayanto Kadiman said Indonesia received the bulletins 45 minutes before the tsunami struck but “did not announce them” because they did not want to cause unnecessary alarm. “If it (the tsunami) did not occur, what would have happened?” he said in the capital, Jakarta, without elaborating (taken from here and the source are here).

sir.. hellooooooooooo???
do you know what’s the meaning of warning? let me show you. wikipedia. com mentioned that warning is a recommendation of prudence or a signal of danger, or an alert issued by a warning system. read the line.. signal of danger. do you also want to know the meaning of danger as well? hmmm.. find yourself.. you use the internet, don’t you?

and… do you know what is the consequence or reaction of what so-called warning, in particular for the community? yup.. you are right…. panic.. or more over chaotic situation. is that what you were afraid of? *i hope you will not say .. yes…. * come on!! for saving thousands of life, that’s the risk you should take. it’s not the warning nor the panic situation you should worried about. but you, the government, should find a solution and handle the situation. try to reduce the chaos.. or try make the people not panic when the warning is announced. so.. in the future.. rather than saying, we are not going to announce the warning, since we are not sure whether the tsunami will happen or not, it’s better for you to design a better system for communicating the warning and all the effects that might come. *easy to say.. q!*

so then.. if you have a good (and accountable) early warning system, you don’t have to worry if it gives you a wrong prediction. even, if it is wrong, at least you have done something. don’t be like some other government officers, they, sometimes, prefer not to do anything rather than doing something in a wrong way *play safe.. huh? doing nothing.. means.. not doing the wrong thing..? hmm.. dodol* . come on, we understand kok.. kalau kalian juga manusia.

and now.. after more than 300 were killed.. what do you think about that statement.. sir?

ps: i know.. it’s not easy to be a government officer.. and this post was also written by someone who does not know anything about disaster management.. but at least, as a human being, i think we should learned from our past experiences? don’t you think so?

my friend also gave me this link.. it’s about early warning system
